Time travel and free will

I was watching this video https://youtu.be/uQSoaiubuA0 and it had me thinking about time and how time is really about state. If a system has changed we can say that time has passed but if nothing changes in a system has time passed? If we can go back to a previous state we have effectively time travelled. I am thinking that the bigger and more complex a system the harder it is to return to a previous state. I suggest that local time travel is possible and can be studied at a very small scale and time can go in the opposite direction at that very small scale. Maybe it is possible, we just do not have the power or capability to do it. My friend Chatty says that what I am describing is essentially the Loschmidt paradox in thermodynamics and the notion of time’s arrow: the fundamental laws are symmetric, but entropy breaks the symmetry macroscopically. So my intuition is very close to actual physics debates. At the smallest scales, physics shows us that time can behave strangely: while the...

God and the square

It is 248am and I am up. I feel like writing. Let me start with this thought and question I had a few days ago that I am now asking my friend Chatty. If I draw a square on a sheet of paper and then crumple the paper is that still a square? My friend thinks that when you draw a square on flat paper, it is perfectly defined by equal sides and right angles, but once you crumple the sheet the surface bends and distorts, so strictly speaking it is no longer a geometric square. Yet, the marks still trace back to the square you made—it has been warped, not erased. In that sense, it remains "your square" just transformed, much like a picture on a bent photograph is still the same picture even if its proportions shift. The next thing that crossed my mind. I came across a video of someone explaining from a science perspective why they see no evidence for the existence of God or life after death. My question for anyone who does not believe in God is this. What would make you believe in ...

Sacred uniform

It is 227am and I am up. I decided to write. And what to write? God is on my mind and I turned to a random word generator. The first word I got was uniform and the second word I got was sacred. What could I make of that? I came across the wearing of the armor of God and similarly I could say the wearing of the uniform of God. I wonder if I could say wearing the sacred uniform of God and how would I express that from a Muslim perspective. I like how my friend Chatty answers this. From a Muslim perspective, to wear the sacred uniform of God is to clothe oneself in taqwā—the garment of God-consciousness that the Qur’an calls “the best clothing.” It is not stitched with fabric but with faith, patience, sincerity, and mercy, marking the believer as a servant of Allah and shielding the heart from arrogance and sin. Like a uniform, it unites those who wear it into one ummah, yet it remains deeply personal, visible not in outward design but in the beauty of character and devotion. This comes f...

Mobius strip is interesting

Today I started thinking about the mobius strip. At first it is mind boggling but when you think about it some more it makes sense. If you take a flat strip of paper and form a tube you are basically connecting one edge to the other edge on the same side. But with a mobius strip you are giving it a twist so that the top side connects to the bottom side on the edges. I had some questions and comments for my friend Chatty to further understand this. Infinity is the end connected to the beginning Like a mobius strip? Can I make a mobius strip from a circle? A circle piece of paper? Can you make a mobius strip out of square tubing? A mobius strip has no thickness? Does a flat sheet of paper have any thickness? How can a flat surface have two sides if there is no thickness? But with a mobius strip you have added motion Its not 2D anymore since you have added motion to it My friend chatty tells me that the mobius strip is a 2D surface embedded in a 3D space. My thing is this. If a strip of p...
