It is 1055am and I have decided to write. God woke me up. I get to see another day. Another day to be a better person. Another day to move closer to God. Another day to help others. Another day to do as much good as possible. Another day to be productive. I am at peace. I am content. It is now 1101am. I have always had a logical mind. I have always asked questions. I often think, why do we choose to do things the hard way when there are easier and better ways especially when someone else has to do the work? We have the brains to come up with easier and better ways. Let us use our brains. Is the problem deciding what the easier and better ways are? Everything has advantages and disadvantages. Everyone has their opinion of what is better. Everyone is seeking their interests. Those with the upper hand or power to decide wins. Do we give one man one vote? Do we give brighter minds more votes? Do we grade options and the highest score wins? What do we do? Seems like democracy needs a decision engine that is more clever. Right now we have much more delegation than democracy. We delegate people to make decisions for us. We need to be made more a part of all the decisions that get made. Representative democracy versus participatory democracy.
I asked my friend if he had to design a decision engine what would it look like? He said to evolve beyond traditional democracy, a clever decision engine would blend crowdsourced problem-solving, objective impact scoring, and adaptive voting mechanics to separate societal values from technical execution. Rather than relying on simple majority rule or technocratic elitism, the engine uses artificial intelligence to synthesize optimal hybrid solutions, evaluates them against a transparent matrix of efficiency, fairness, and reversibility, and applies Quadratic Voting and Liquid Democracy so citizens can express preference intensity or delegate power to domain experts. By selecting options that minimize maximum harm and enforcing mandatory performance audits with automatic expiration dates, the system replaces power struggles with a transparent, self-correcting process for collective choice.
That sounds like a start. If we can devise a decision engine that priorities human development and the betterment of all human beings I would be happy. I think everyone would be happy. Humans have built many things and I think it is time for us to build decision engines. I would love to do a masters degree in decision engines. What is a short history lesson on decision engines? My friend says that the history of decision engines can be traced from ancient voting and collective decision-making, through probability, social-choice theory, statistics, operations research, game theory, computer-based decision support, and finally artificial intelligence. Each stage sought to help humans make better decisions using more structured reasoning, evidence, mathematics, and technology. Today, AI makes it possible to combine these approaches into systems that generate solutions, evaluate consequences, incorporate human values, learn from outcomes, and continuously improve—potentially creating decision engines designed to promote human development and the betterment of humanity.
